Worship is one of those words that mean many things to many people. Here at First Baptist Everman we want every aspect of our Sunday morning services, Sunday evening services, and Wednesday night services to be filled with worship as we come together corporately to exalt the name of Jesus. The Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible defines worship as an “expression of reverence and adoration of God”, while the Broadman Church Manual says, “To worship is to become aware of the holy presence of God and to follow God’s leadership in love.” Today we seem to restrict the idea of worship to what goes on Sunday morning in church and more specifically what type of music is being played.
At First Baptist we believe worship should go on in the home on an individual basis as you serve God each and every day and worship should occur corporately as the body of Christ comes together on Sundays and Wednesdays. Therefore every aspect of a service at First Baptist should be considered an act of worship as we exalt the name of Christ. Our worship is not complete until we follow God completely each and everyday serving Him in Spirit and in Truth.
When you come to a Sunday or Wednesday service we have prayed over that service asking God to bless all that we do. And we have prayed that we would show Him the honor He deserves. Whether it is opening the word of God, singing songs of praise, fellowship with one another, praying for one another, or giving of our time, talent and resources, everything should show reverence and adoration for Christ.
So, what is worship at First Baptist really? It is an attitude of the heart that places Christ first in all things. Come and worship with us. You’ll be glad you did!
John 4:23 (HCSB) 23 But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship Him.
